Abstract

Introduction: In the 21st century, digital systems like laptops, TVs, mobiles, and computers are widely used for gaming and social media. While technology offers great opportunities for adolescents, excessive screen time can lead to psychological issues like social isolation. Ocular involvement in systemic disorders is common, including vitamin A and D deficiencies, xerophthalmia, night blindness, Bitot’s spots, and viral infections, requiring attention from ophthalmologists and physicians. Methods: A pre-experimental study was conducted in a school under Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation to evaluate the impact of health teaching on adolescents' knowledge about preventing screening vision disorders. Using a one-group pre-test and post-test design, 60 adolescent girls aged 13-16 years were selected through non-probability purposive sampling. A structured knowledge questionnaire was administered before and after the intervention. Reliability was assessed using the test-retest method, with a Pearson's correlation coefficient of 0.98. Data was analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics. Result: The collected data was analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics. The overall pre-test mean knowledge score was 11.5, and the post-test mean was 21.9, showing a significant mean enhancement of 10.4 points. This improvement was statistically significant. The differences between pre-test and post-test scores were analyzed using paired t-test, which yielded a t-value of 21.6 with 99 degrees of freedom and a p-value of 0.000, indicating a highly significant difference. The results demonstrate the effectiveness of health teaching in improving adolescents' knowledge regarding the prevention of screening vision disorders. Conclusion: The study shows that health teaching significantly improves adolescents' knowledge about preventing screening vision disorders. The pre-test to post-test knowledge increase supports the research hypothesis, highlighting the effectiveness of health education. The findings stress the importance of integrating vision care education into school curricula to promote better eye health.
